Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii, is located in the south coast of the island of Oahu. In Hawaiian language “hono” means “sheltered” and “lulu” means “bay”, so Honolulu means “sheltered bay”.

The capital of Hawaii has several districts, including the popular Waikiki. At Honolulu also you can find Kapiolani Park, located at the east end of Waikiki down Diamond Head, the popular extinct volcano. Although Honolulu refers to the city itself, the entire Island of Oahu is commonly denominated with this name.

There is also time for cultural visits at Honolulu: you can tour the University of Hawaii at Manoa, the Bishop Museum, the Honolulu Academy of Arts and Kawaiahao Church, where monarch funerals took place. The only royal palace in the United State is in Honolulu: the Iolani Place, located downtown, next to the Hawaii state library.

Honolulu is the business and population center of Hawaii. A lot of hotels, apartment buildings and private residences can be found at the Hawaiian capital since II World War, when tourism increased at Hawaii. Other industries at Honolulu, besides tourism, are: printing and publishing, jewelry, clothing, food and beverages, rubber products, construction materials and electronics and computer equipment.

Waikiki is a neighborhood in Honolulu, one of the Oahu cities. Waikiki beach is known as one of the best beaches in the world. The name means spouting fresh water in Hawaiian. Waikiki has long been a place of retreat for Hawaiian royalty in the 1800s. Besides Waikiki there are a lot of places to visit at Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii.
